Silver Birch Dress

FOR SIZE CHART - See measurements below in the description

Designer Tarmi found her inspiration for this exquisite dress in the enchanting nature of the Silver Birch Tree. Drawing on the tree’s humble power, this piece represents the wearer’s individual strength, worn outwardly to express what lies within.

The unique structure of the Silver Birch Dress breaks with tradition and harks back to Tarmi’s ‘Mycelium’ couture art piece. With long structural lines of a tree trunk gently flowing down the wearer’s sides and a neckline reminiscent of the hollow of a tree encircling her neck, this is a truly sartorial art piece.

Using upcycled remnants of fabric from the studio combined with embroidery, Tarmi created a fabric treatment that captures the contrast between the shimmering outer layer of the tree against the dark cracks of internal bark. The exposed zip and grosgrain ribbon in the hem accentuates this contrast between the dark and the white fabric of the dress.

The detailed, hand-crafted texture, along with the modern, sophisticated structure makes this a truly one of a kind piece that would become an elegant wardrobe staple.

The Silver Birch fabric texture has been designed and created by Tarmi in her studio using appliqué and embroidery.

The base fabric is a Slub Silk Dupion. The natural variations that form the texture of the slub fabric compliment the appliqué and embroidery that has been inspired by the bark of a Silver Birch tree .

Each dress is fully lined in Silk Habotai. The dye pattern takes inspiration from the mushrooms on Tarmi’s art couture garment ‘Mycelium‘. The lining is hand dyed by Tarmi using the Japanese Shibori technique, Arashi. Also known as pole-wrapping shibori to create a wavy pattern within the colour.

Main – White. Lining – White and Apricot or White and Peach

Exposed Center back zip.
